I thought you might like these pictures of Andy Malloch's 1983 Armstrong Twinshocker taken at the recent Scottish Twinshock meeting at Penicuik on the 28th March.
The old guy is now 50
Seven times Scottish Twinshock champion Paul Chiappa celebrated his first half century with some of his racing pals at the City Hotel in Dunfermline on Saturday the 5th December, he was also presented with a personalised raceshirt to comemorate the event, the celebrations went on well into the wee small hours with some unbelievable stories being told of day's gone by and all the daring-do performed by the Scottish Twinshock racing fraternity.
Paul very kindly loaned me a few pictures from his old schoolboy BSA Bantam day's to have a look at so I thought that I would share them with you.

Can you identify the riders?
A wee brain teaser for you these are a few pictures taken when Twinshock racing was in it's infancy, this was at a meeting at the old Comrie bing near Oakley in Fife and I think it was around 1998 can you name the riders, (because I have'nt a clue). You can leave your nominations at this link www.monti@btinternet.com
Jim Baxter sent this story about this picture. . . "this picture is of me bearing the number 1 plate on my 250 maico, I beat Geof Ballard for the win that day who was over from Australia to contest the Twinshock GP as a guest of Bill Brown, he then went on to win the Twinshock GP the following week.

Twinshock MX De Nations event at Farleigh Castle on 5th and 6th September and finished in seventh place overall.

Round three of the Scottish Twinshock 2009 championships went ahead at their No1 venue at Carden Farm Powmill near Kinross on Sunday 24th May.
This superb and some would say that it is their best racetrack on the Scottish Twinshock racing calender, was in superb condition and was supplied by kind permission and assistance of the farmer Jim Heggie.
Track building on the Wednesday night brought an excellent turnout of at least 20+ club and non club members to assist in the construction (although not all of them were there to build tracks as most stood about in a huddle talking about bikes and sh.te,. . . . in fact I even saw a couple throwing it at each other) but to the hard working enthusiasts who actually did muck in a very big thank you to you all as your help is very much appreciated and we hope this continues in September at Alloa.
First to the start gate on the Sunday were the Pre 77 class, and despite early challenges from Dunoon man Grant McLure on his Maico the eventual and overall win went to the Scottish Classic Club's Husquavarna mounted Tommy Anderson , Derek McAulay on his Bultaco was never far from the fray over the piece and he did well enough to take third, Garry Smith came home in 4th from Tom Dickie the screamin demon 5th.
The Charlton boys were in fine form at Powmill with Richard doing well in the Twinshock big bike class while father Ian chalked up yet another dominant win in the Fourstroke class, Ian Charlton appeared in a somewhat more sombre and laid back mood than of late but he still rode exceptionally well for his day's prize and the overall win, and that was despite running most of race three with a broken tappet on his CCM motor.
Andy Malloch finished runner up in this class while a cracking ride from Sy Greig would earn him the last podium place. Strath Garages finest Iain Clark also put in a fine performance up until he had a major off in race three while seeing the red mist and trying to catch Andy Malloch's CCM when Ian and his bike parted company and went arse over head after it hit a Powmill pothole, but Iain is made of stern stuff and was none the worse for wear after this ordeal and was looking forward to seeing the replay on DVD.
I also witnessed a bit of ill feeling between a couple of Fourstroke riders on Sunday who were at it helmet to helmet for whatever reason, so guy's please bear in mind this is not G. P motocorss and there is never a lot to win at the of the day and if you want to do that sort of thing then you will find that this club will not tolerate verbal or any other forms of physical abuse to another member for whatever reason, so you know who you are so let's have no more of the same in the future FROM ANYBODY.
Moving on... another full set of Evolution championship points were added to Bill Bruce's score at the end of the day with an emphatic win over the far travelled John Howard who continues to commute from France on a regular bases to race with the Scottish Twinshock Club, and it all seemed to make John's journey much more worthwhile at the end of the day when he took the runner up spot in this class aboard his very quick CR 250 Honda, championship leader Davie Pullar earned more valuable points by finishing third (it must have been his new start gate he installed), while Mark Kenny ran well to take the fourth spot.
In the Twinshock 250's Alec Jointer continued on his winning way's to the overall win on the day from James McLean in second and Mike VanDerMerWe in third, in race three James McLean had to race a Jim Colligan borrowed machine when his own Maico developed mechanical problems, Tony Burrell brought his antique Suzuki home to finish in fourth.
The big bike Twinshock 500 class continured to thrill the crowd's as Paul Chiappa and Richard Charlton raced wheel to wheel throughout the three legs and believe me it was racing of the hardest order, the contrast in the big bang CCM motors power delivery of Charlton's big stroker and the endless top the end of Chiappa's 490 Maico was indeed a racing spectacle for the Twinshock connoisseur, but Chiappa would once again emerge as the victor of the piece courtesay of his two wins, Charlton ended up finishing second overall due to a well deserved win in race two, Craig Smith was never far from the action and would take third spot from John Richards on the yellow peril Maico in fourth.
The Richards family dominated a lot of the proceedings at Powmill while son John was doing well in the 500 class, dad Andrew was showing how it should be done in the Over 50's aboard a very quick 490 Maico, he rode out of his skin to take the overall win from John Walker's Honda in second and Dougie Thomson in third, the club's sruitineer man Steve Cruikshank did superbly to finish 4th.
John Mitchell breezed past the opposition in the Over 40's with three straight wins aboard his newly purchards 500 Honda, also in race two Calum Sangster and Jim Colligan were both battling for the second and third placings until they had a wee coming together at the bottom of the downhill section of the track and were both un-cremoniously dismounted from their steeds in a heap, but both riders appeared unhurt and there was no ill feeling between the two riders which was good to see considering the events that went on between other riders previously, (but I've since learned that Jim Colligan has a few broken ribs but still hopes to be fit for round 4 at Dunoon on 21st June).
John Soutar turned the Monoshock A Class into the John Soutar one man motocross extravaganza and dominated the class with three straight wins and a superb overall performance from the Forfar man who started from well back in the pack in almost every race, Sean Doherty was riding like a man posessed to try and catch the flying Soutar Suzuki but he never really got close enough to make any kind of challenge, Bryan Alexander was the best of the rest in third, but at the end of the day no one was going to catch Soutar the way he was riding and the remainder of the pack had to make do with the lesser placings on the day.
The Monoshock B boys were equally entertaining and it was a very tight contest between Grant Smith and Jamie Black at the front, but Smith would emerge as top dog overall from Black in second, Colin Bryan would take the final podium position come closing time.
And finally just a few wee short snippetts. . . . .
A wee bird. . . (or should that be a big 6ft bird) told me on Sunday at Powmill that a certain "Stoorie" (or Stuart Baird as he is known to you and me) had gone into a garage in Kilmarnock to fill up his four wheel drive DIESEL motor, and promptly pumped £40 worth of PETROL into the tank (allegedly by mistake of course). So if everybody would keep that in mind as additional slagging material at the next meeting . . . . cheers.
Staying in Ayrshire wee Jock McKell was made up and was on a high on Sunday because his Evo - Modern - Old - Twinshock bike contraption was featured in the Trials & Motocross News last Friday and even they didn't know if it was eligible to race at Twinshock meetings, but as long as he isn't winning anything on it who cares.
There was a usual stampede to vacate the field as soon as racing was over at Powmill and the usual small band of the club members were left to take the track down and pick up the very substantial amounts of litter that were left lying about, as Joe was reiterating on the PA on Sunday if everyone mucked in and helped out the track would be down in minutes and not the 1 hour plus that it took a few individuals on Sunday, but it appeared that the majority of punters were quite happy to stand about on the top of the hill for that hour watching others mucking in until all was cleaned up and the trophies wre distributed, so maybe this will be something we will have to look at at the next AGM.
Thanks go to the farmer Jim Heggie for helping out with his tractor and big post knocker on Wednesday night, and to Linda Martin and company for their lap scoring and flag waving skills . . . Now where would the club be without you all?
Our continuing thanks have to go to the "Monster Energy" drink people once again for the endless supply of their superb isotonic pick me up as it was a welcome sight after a hard day's riding and it was well received from the tired and thirsty Powmill riders.
It only remains to say that we will see you all at Ardintinney Dunoon on the 21st June where we are hoping for at least a dry meeting for once and we will try and break our wet Dunoon duck, and if you have not sampled the hospitality of a Dunoon Saturday evening prior to race day then why not come along and enjoy some good food and pleasant company and in general talk a load of p*sh like the rest of us when we have a few beers in us.
